Your first thought might be why run a race at a golf course? If you ask this question, you have not visited Ford's Colony, Rocky Mount! Ford's Colony is less than two years old, but has already drawn a reputation as a premier golf course in the southeast. The David Johnson designed course opened in September of 2007 and is sure to become a masterpiece.

Utilizing a classic front-nine out and back-nine return routing, the course takes full advantage of the gently rolling terrain and allows for a six uninterrupted miles of wide and smooth paved paths. Runners and walkers will pass over multiple brick bridges, through several wooded paths, and take in multiple views of the 80 acre Belmont Lake along the route.

New this year is a 1.5 mile Fun Run. So bring out the entire family! We have also added $100 bonuses for the first runners to reach time premiums (see additional prizes below). Congratulations Runners! The inaugural Ford's Colony 5k and 10k is now in the books. We want to thank you all for participating in the event. The race results are now available online. Click the Results link to the left to see the winners.

We sold out in our first year, but determined that we can handle more runners for 2009. So we will increase capacity, but not by much. Running on the paths is easily one of the prettiest 5ks and 10ks you will experience in North Carolina. Over crowding the course with extra runners will take away from your enjoyment. So be on the look out for registration. You will not want to miss out!

Race Categories

All finishers will receive a custom medal unique to their race. In addition, awards will be given in the following categories for both men and women.

· Top 3: Overall Finishers;

· Top 1: Overall Masters;

· 12 and under;

· 13-19;

· 20-29;

· 30-39;

· 40-49;

· 50-59;

· 60 and over.

Additional Prizes

Raleigh Running Outfitters has agreed to offer "Cash" incentives (store gift cards) for premium times in this years Ford's Colony Races. Individuals in each of the following four categories can win a $100 gift card towards any purchase at Raleigh Running Outfitters:

* 5k Men: 1st person to break 17:00
* 5k Women: 1st person to break 19:00
* 10k Men: 1st person to break 37:00
* 10k Women: 1st person to break 41:00

These are aggressive time goals, but can certainly be reached. There will also be gift cards offered to the winners of each age group category as well. Stay tuned for more details on these prizes.
