Congratulations to all the individuals and school teams who came out to participate in the Wake PTA Healthy Lifestyles 5k Run/Walk event this past Sunday, November 21, 2010. We had 496 registered runners/walkers and 60 registered volunteers for this event. Additionally, there were lots of spectators and event sponsors that came out to NC State Centennial Campus on Sunday to make this a phenomenal celebration of Healthy Lifestyles for children and families throughout Wake County.
With regard to the School Team Participation contest, Wake PTA Council is happy to announce the following Participation Contest results – PTA presidents at these 14 schools will be contacted after December 1st regarding the awarding of the following prizes:
Elementary School Winner – Sterling Montessori (121 registered participants) will receive a Healthy Lifestyles grant of $715.00.
Middle School Winner – North Garner Middle (29 registered participants) will receive a Healthy Lifestyles grant of $715.00.
High School Winner – Two schools tied and will split the high school level grant of $715.00. Green Hope High (10 registered participants) will receive a Healthy Lifestyles grant of $357.50. Panther Creek High (10 registered participants) will receive a Healthy Lifestyles grant of $357.50.
Additionally, the following 10 PTA units have won runner-up participation prizes of a three-month scholarship to Mathnasium, the presenting sponsor of the Wake PTA Healthy Lifestyles 5k Run/Walk:

Banks Road Elementary (46 registered participants)
East Cary Middle (23 registered participants)
Combs Elementary (18 registered participants)
Moore Square Museums Magnet Middle (13 registered participants)
Douglas Elementary (13 registered participants)

The race will take place at Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary NC. The run course will feature smooth running surface with grass and gravel. A water station will be at the 1.5 mile mark.

The last day to register online for the Wake County PTA Healthy Lifestyles 5k is Thursday, November 18, 2010. On-site registration may be available if this event is not full, but your best bet is to register online.

Awards will not be mailed out. You must be present to receive an award.
The proceeds from the “WCPTA Healthy Lifestyles 5k Run/Walk” race will benefit the Wake County PTA Council, which is the umbrella organization that supports local PTA units at 156 schools across Wake County, North Carolina. The Council provides leadership training and assistance to the local school units throughout the year, as well as helping coordinate programs for schools throughout the County. PTA is the leading child advocacy organization in the United States. Their mission is to be a powerful voice for all children, a relevant resource for families and communities, and a strong advocate for the education and well-being of every child.
